Painted in 1999, this portrait was inspired by the romantic side of the Eighth Doctor.
I imagined he could well be an accomplished violinist, hense the title of the painting. He is playing the beautiful Meditation from the opera Thais, by Massenet.
Not only a headcanon, but actually canon. To quote the Data Core: “The Doctor could play the violin, harpsichord, flute, transverse cello, harp, banjo, theremin, wobbleboard and the piano. (PROSE: The Year of Intelligent Tigers, Eater of Wasps)”
